Modern Sail Training

About

headshot0001.jpgI’ve been sailing professionally for 15 years. I cut my teeth on a 102′ steel and iron 1885 schooner, so my heart has always gone out to gaff riggers. More recently I’ve begun to teach on small boats. This “reverse graduation” from big-to-small has been one of the best moves of my sailing life.

I could go on at length, but the greatest thing about small boats is that you really learn to sail. Big boats can teach you plenty of big-picture headwork and seamanship, but you can’t really get the feel of pure sailing. One the other hand, small, responsive boats know when you’re not paying attention and give you immediate feedback.

I hope you enjoy the pages and resources here. I’m going to continue to update the pages, and please feel free to post your comments!

See you on the water,

Julian
